Swimming & Waterfront Program
The waterfront is the busy scene of many of our most popular activities.

We have four graduated swimming areas, ranging in depth from that in which a non swimmer or beginner may gain confidence to that in which the advanced swimmer finds some challenge. Every camper participates in swimming and many learn the handling of canoes, kayaks, and playaks. Free Play at the waterfront includes snorkeling classes and swim for fitness for our older campers, and scenic boat rides for our youngest campers. All of our classes are taught by certified Red Cross Instructors and the emphasis is on individual instruction. All Red Cross progressive skills and methods are strictly adhered to.

Our waterfront staff includes twenty Water Safety Instructors (WSI) and over 40 Red Cross certified Lifeguards, all under the direct supervision of our experienced, highly qualified waterfront director. The 45 minute Instructional Swim period each morning maintains a class ratio of 1 WSI plus a Lifeguard Aide to a group of 8-10 children. (1-1 ratio provided if necessary). Campers are organized by swimming ability and evaluated within the first couple of days of camp. At the end of each campers’ session, parents will receive a detailed swimming progress report that is completed by the youngster’s instructor and sent home by mail.
There are two general swims each afternoon (one for the girls and one for the boys). The ratio of lifeguards to swimmers is 1-8. Additionally, all staff have assigned positions both around the dock and swimming areas and at the non swimming posts.
General and Instructional Swims make this an activity of learning and fun.
