No matter how beautiful and well maintained the grounds are, or how excellent the facilities may be, or how extensive the programming, it is the staff who makes the real difference at Sharon Country Day. Our staff is our GREATEST ASSET.

The majority of our counselors are former campers who have spent many summers with us. They understand what it means to be a role model and a positive influence for children. We hire our staff based on emotional maturity, good character, integrity, enthusiasm, a love of children and the ability to understand the needs of the campers as well as the objectives of the camp.
Our Specialist areas (gymnastics, archery, ropes, arts & crafts etc.) are directed by teachers and college students all with extensive experience and expertise in their particular field.
Senior Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders also are comprised of teachers and college students who head up each of our individual bunk groupings, and with staff assistance, directly supervise, lead, and guide the campers at all of their sports, games and camp wide activities. In addition, they have the responsibility of preparing detailed, written progress reports on each of their campers. These reports, covering every aspect of camp life, are mailed home to parents at the end of the youngsters’ stay at camp. A great deal of time and effort is put into these comprehensive reports which are such an essential part of the overall communication policy we have with our parents.
Our Apprentice General Counselors, who assist the Bunk Unit Leaders, are composed of high school juniors and seniors. They are all former campers who have been a part of the SCDC family for many years and who have successfully completed our extensive counselor-in-training program.
CIT Program – Counselors in Training (15 & 16 year olds) CIT’s are all former campers who have been carefully selected for this program which covers 2 camp seasons. Maturity, good judgment , moral character, responsibility, & love of camp life are but a few of the criteria required to qualify for, and enter into, the program.
Staff ratio in the younger groupings is 1 to 5 and in the older cabins is approximately 1-6. Staff are with their groups throughout the day, building close personal relationships with the campers. Their goal is to truly get to know each individual child and to ensure that all campers have a fun, safe, happy, & memorable experience at Sharon Country Day.
